The People’s Democratic Party PDP in Aniocha North local government area of Delta state has resolved not to hastily adopt a governorship aspirant in the forth coming governorship election.
The party leaders in the area said it would only adopt a candidate following the instructions and direction of the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa
In a communique signed by leaders of the party in the local government and made available to Emerald News, the leaders said the party shall no longer accept consensus candidate for the House of Assembly.
It said all aspirants who have purchased nomination and expression of interest forms shall be entitled to participate in the primary elections.
The communiqué added that all aspirants and leaders shall support any aspirant that emerges at the end of party primary election.
In the meeting which held at the country home of Professor Sylvester Monye, senior policy adviser to the governor, the party leaders said past performances of the party in the local government have been characterized by in-fighting, group clashes, alleged rigging and almost permanent enemies.
This, according to the party leaders, culminated in low voter turnout, apathy at the polls, a development which has not augurred well for the local government.
The communiqué was signed by 20 party leaders and eight house of assembly aspirants. These include Professor Sylvester Monye, Emma Bazim Chinye, Jaunty Okwudi, Dan Okenyi among others.
