Despite fears that the Ibori’s political dynasty is on the verge of collapse following Ibori’s near inability to warm his choice governorship aspirant into the heart of Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Thursday said the Ibori’s political family is intact, unbroken and not collapsing.
Okowa who spoke on Thursday during a quarterly media briefing, explained that the Ibori and the PDP family in Delta are fully intact. He said whatever may be going on at the moment is politics as politics must be played.
However, there are indications that the governor and former Governor James Ibori are at loggerheads over the choice of who picks the PDP governorship ticket in the May 23 party primaries.
While it is believed that the incumbent governor is backing speaker of the state house of assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor James Ibori is promoting David Edevbie as his choice for the governorship in the state.
There have been successive meetings to settle the two king makers and resolve lingering issues, there seems not to be a way out for the kingmakers. Ibori has allegedly met with some political bigwigs in the nation to press his choice aspirant into the heart of the governor, it has not yielded visible results.
In the press briefing which held at the government house press centre, Okowa also revealed certain qualities that will determine the man among the aspirants that will be his successor in 2023.
He said the individual must be someone who will have the feeling for every Deltan, who will unite Delta state, who will be humble and relate freely with all Deltans irrespective of where the person is coming from.
