In a rare show of gratitude and appreciation to a political godfather and mentor, the Mayor of Urhoboland, Eshanakpe Israel a.k.a Akpodoro has in a soul inspiring ‘thank you’ letter to the executive governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, described him as an Urhobo son from another mother having demonstrated what he described as a weird love for Urhobo nation before, during and after the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state.
Akpodoro stated this in an April 15, 2023-dated letter to the helmsman of the oil-rich state noting that but for him a ravenous opposition party which he described as bunch of holocaust would have foisted itself on the state to devour it, saying Governor Okowa saved the state from calamity.
According to the Gbaregolor, Ughelli South Local Government area-born Mayor, the race to Asaba Government House in 2023 was quite challenging owing to the vilification of the PDP and the operators of the political system in the state, stating that opposition politics was weaponised to achieve ulterior motives for the ‘enemies’ of the state.
He further said that perverts within the political space intended compromising the integrity of the election and possibly steal victory but the strength in the governor’s character, sagacity and the love for the state gave the ruling party victory.
Specifically, the Mayor said the verdict of history shall be kind to the governor when he eventually hands over the baton of leadrship on May 29, 2023 adding that his love for Urhobo nation and by extension Delta state is noted with immeasurable thanks to the ‘Ekwueme of Delta politics.’
“The entire Urhobo nation is thankful to your Excellency on your choice of Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori and your stance for.what is good for the people of Delta State. Your support and solidarity to our nation is notable while we cherish your love for the good people of Delta state.
“Right from the party congress in the state to electioneering campaigns, election proper and post election, the people of Urhobo nation can not thank you less for your efforts at ensuring the best takes over from you and for this, we are thankful to you and your entire victorious team,” the Mayor stated noting that the people of the state shall do their best to support the incoming governor.
The letter is first of its kind in the annals of political mentorship in the state and with the correspondence, the Mayor of Urhoboland has set a new height in the game of real politics according to an unnamed aide of the governor who poured encomium on the Mayor.
