The chances of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 guber race, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, has continued to suffer major setback on daily basis.

Ogboru’s candidacy in the 2023 election has continued to face threats from different part of the state.

The latest hit on the APGA gubernatorial flag bearer on Thursday was the defection of his state youth leader, Engr. Clement Oghoje and hundreds that joined the Social Democratic Party in Okpe local government area of the state.

The defection was during the SDP rally at the Baptist Grammar School, Oreeokpe, the administrative headquarter of Okpe local government area of Delta state.

The former APGA Youth Leader, Engr. Ighoje, joined the SDP with hundreds of his supporters, thereby jeopardizing Ogboru’s chances in the forthcoming general election.

He said: “I am a former member of APGA, I left SDP for APGA because I thought that was where I was going to see light.

“Unfortunately, there was no light, it was all hopelessness. Then, I said no let me go back to my home. That is why I am back home,” he said.

He, his teeming supporters and APGA members were welcomed into SDP by the National Vice Chairman of SDP, South-south, Elder Fred Owotorofa, who also presented them with SDP membership cards.

He expressed confidence in the victory of the party, assuring them of justice, fairness and equity amongst members of the SDP and called on others who are yet to join to do so.

The former APGA chieftain said he and his team joined the SDP because it is the party to beat in the 2023 election, adding that both APGA, APC and PDP have lost their bearings.

Receiving the defectors, Owotorofa,  expressed happiness and commended them for their wise decision to join SDP.

He assured them of equal treatment and opportunities in the party just as he urged them to continue to be law-abiding as well as convince more people to join the winning party.

“You have taken a wise decision to move from where you have been to where you should be. You have moved from APGA by the declaration of your leader to SDP.

“On behalf of the national chairman of the SDP, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, I welcome you all and admit you into the Delta state chapter.

“From this moment and by the fact of this declaration, I declare you fully integrated into the SDP family. You have equal rights and privileges of every other members of Social Democratic Party”, he reiterated.
