Former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to do what is right as the time inches closer for the emergence of the candidate to fly the PDP flag for the 2023 governorship election.
Orubebe who received another former minister and frontline Delta guber aspirant, Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi in his country home in Burutu local government area, also told delegates to vote the right person but eat any money given to them by aspirants.
The former minister said the truth should be told to those in power, noting that if the best person for 2023 is not given the ticket, the challenges in the state will remain unchallenged.
Orubebe noted: “If you are a man and you cannot speak the truth, you are the destroyer of generations.”
Speaking on the capacity of Gbagi to govern Delta, he said “Gbagi is qualified. He has character, capacity, commitment and passion to drive the state forward. Gbagi is the man needed at this period to drive development in Delta.
“Let the right thing be done. There’s enough in this state that should go round everybody. I wanted to have a census in my time if I was allowed. I would have paid every Deltan salary every month.
“It pains me that good people are not allowed to rule. We should put in reasonable people as leaders. These are people that will drive development, impact lives and posterity will not forget them.
“There’s a lot to do in this state. Some of us will help you Gbagi to put things right. It is not about what we will eat. It is about what we will leave behind for the younger ones. Some times, the younger ones do not understand. They follow those who have no vision to impact their lives.”
Orubebe, who spoke glowingly about the special qualities in Gbagi, dwelt essentially on how Gbagi made
unfathomable impact during their days at the federal executive council, said Delta needed men of courage like Gbagi and political willpower to do the unthinkable.
According to him: “There’s a lot of jobs to do in Delta and Nigeria. Men of courage must speak out. We need such leaders in Delta state. White should be called white and yellow should be called yellow.
“It is my prayer that God will grant Governor Okowa the vision to do the right thing. God should put your spirit (Gbagi) in his heart and others to see your passion to develop this state.
“It has not happened that university, polytechnic and colleges of education proposals were presented same day at FEC. Let’s tell the leaders the truth.
“But in Nigeria, our people do not say the truth. If you tell a lie because of hunger, you will die in hunger. If you say the truth, God will open ways for you.
“Anybody that tells you he’s doing something out of hunger, he will die in hunger. Your Excellency, the next governor of Delta state, there’s a lot to do.
“Please, delegates do not be intimidated, if money comes eat it, it’s your money but do the right thing.”
