Ahead of primary election of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta state to choose a governorship candidate come May 21, 2022, a chieftain of the party (names withheld) has reportedly set aside N50bn for the D day.

The election which is in the hands of the party delegates across the 25 local government sreas of Delta state, will decide who becomes the flagbearer of the party in 2023 general elections.

According to Zion Nationale, a prominent local newspaper in Delta state, it was learnt that the N50bn is to enable the chieftain deliver a governorship flagbearer of his choice who will be answerable to him if voted as governor of the state.

The report says good sum of money has been earmarked for each delegate that would vote on that day of the election for his anointed candidate.

Information available to ZN revealed that there are provisions in place to lodge in delegates on the eve of the primary election in any hotel of their choice in Asaba provided they deliver his choice of candidate.

Delegates working for his interest are to be lodged in a hotel, were they will be placed on watch to avoid dissenting voices from opponents.

The chieftain, who is a grassroot mobilizer and politician is putting plans on ground to see that delegates are chauffeured from their hotel rooms to the election ground on that day.

Sources further disclosed that the PDP chieftain who held various positions since 1999, has vowed to use everything in his disposal to deliver his anointed candidate.

Presently, other governorship aspirants and their sponsors have begun to jitter when they heard of the N50b set aside to deliver his anointed candidate.

Since the revelation of the N50bn came into political limelight, the politics of the state has been heated up.

Delegates are now jubilating, because this period of party primaries is when they enrich themselves. The chieftain knows that delegates are his first anchor point to deliver his anointed candidate.

Politicians in the state should bear in mind that voting according to the dictate of the highest bidder is not the best, because it will inflict pains on the people and the multiplier effect will be more calamities and contagious than the immediate financial gratification.

We should not allow the money heap up by the politicians who did not mean well for the people to sway our decisions and kill our conscience.

One thing that is paramount at this political era, is for us to examine the character of the aspirants and vote in the one who has interest of development.

Pen robbers, financial criminals, political thieves, corrupt leaders, people who are sponsored by god fathers, people imposed by leaders of the party who think the state is their own, their father’s property, people who think only their ideas are the best for Deltans should not be allowed to come close to corridors of power.

They have stolen enough money from the State’s treasury and should be driven away from holding public positions.
