There seems to be no space for honest men in the politics of Delta state. The state politics seems to be reserved for men with questionable and dubious characters who, as far as they can please their godfathers, they are good to go. The godfathers and the kingmakers do not care what happens to the generality of Deltans, they are concerned only for themselves and that is their daily pursuit.
If not, one would wonder why should godfathers be hell-bent on their aspirants emerging as party candidates without allowing the delegates to make informed decision on who they think would meet the need of the state and contribute to its development. Or why blocking aspirants access to the delegates, and most painfully, intimidate them to vote for a particular candidate, if not, heaven would fall. This is the height of impunity and a dangerous trend in the politics of Delta state.
These individuals employ instrument of state and party machineries to coerce delegates, not allowing them to prepare their minds for who they want to vote for as they freely wish to do. The system is actually messed up. The honest ones seem not to have space in Delta. This is actually not the practice of true democracy in the true term of it. But it’s high time Delta delegates changed the narrative and vote for the individual who has been tested and proven to have honest character and integrity.
What Deltans and the delegates need now are people with unblemished financial records. Honesty is one of the biggest attributes people should search for from aspirants gunning to govern our state. It is not enough to mount billboards, have psychphantic crowd singing praises of politicians and make heaven and earth promises but there’s need for the aspirants to have honest character in the administration of the state.
If Deltans vote a governorship aspirant who is not honest, there will be financial crisis in the state. Money will be frittered away with the excuse that there is no money in Delta. That is why Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi is the only man with honest character and suitably fit to pilot the affairs of the state. The reasons for this are not far-fetched. Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi has impeccable character that distinguishes him from pack of governorship aspirants being paraded in the state. The facts are clear.
A rundown of government establishments and institutions where Gbagi has worked will attest to the integrity, honesty and financial prudence of Gbagi. In the days of the military administration in the state, Gbagi was in charge of Delta Development Property Authority (DDPA). It could be recalled that Olorogun Gbagi saved not less than N800million for the agency close to his departure. It was learnt that the military administrator then asked him to share the money in whichever way he wanted but he declined, insisting that the money was meant for the state and not for sharing. That decision, it was learnt, made him to lose the job. But he never bothered. That is a man of integrity and honesty.
Another instance was his stint at the federal executive council where he served with former President Goodluck Jonathan as minister of state for education. According to reports, out of the 42 ministers who were in the executive council then, he was the only one not invited by the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning. Yes, up till today, Gbagi has not been sued or invited by anyone for financial crimes or any fraudulent act. These are good testaments of men needed in government to pilot the affairs of state.
Over the years, Gbagi has lived an untainted and unblemished financial life despite the chain of investment he has across the country and other parts of the world. Records have it that many entrepreneurs and business tycoons are owing lots of money, both government agencies, banks, contractors and some wealthy individuals, but not so with Gbagi. The frontline guber aspirant has lived a life free of financial mess across the world. This is the man Deltans need to lead the state at this time, and it will be a great opportunity to have a man with no record of financial impropriety to govern Delta state.
Delta has grown beyond the level where people who do not have credibility will sit at the government house and manage affairs of state. Deltans need the best and the best man for the job is no other person than Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi. We know that people have given so many fake stories about Gbagi, such have no foundation. But the beautiful thing is that no one has said that Gbagi stole their money. For the allegation that Gbagi does not pay staff, he had said it severally that anyone who has evidence that he refused to pay such should come out and he would pay such a one ten million Naira as compensation for owing them. But so far, no one has come out with any evidence.
What then do we need? Do we need people who will fritter our money away? Do we need people who have godfathers to service with our money while we are crying for salaries for workers, pensioners and others? Do we need someone who will use our money to settle thugs and pay godfathers N500million monthly whom he has promised during campaigns so as to facilitate his winning election by all means?
For now, the ball is in the court of the PDP delegates and they must play it well. They must not settle for the present money that will be given to them to buy their conscience and vote for the wrong individual. We are already hearing of money allegedly being paid to local government councilors to facilitate their vote for a particular aspirant. Yes, you must collect the money, it is yours, but you should know what to do on the day of the primaries. They can cajole you now but on the day of the primaries nobody will hold your hand and drag you to vote for a particular aspirant. It still remains a secret ballot. Nobody will know who you vote for.
We must not sell our conscience to vote for what we will regret after the primaries. Let’s do the needful for posterity and the sake of our born and unborn generation. We must join hands to collectively build Delta to our dream. We want jobs. Olorogun Gbagi is set to create jobs for all youths in Delta state. This is a promise he made and he is standing by it. We need a man of honest character who will stand by is word anyday, anytime. And that man is Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi.
