The immediate past Senior Special Assistant to former Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr Michael Nwoko, has said that Nigeria’s democracy is blossoming and needed consistent tender care to become a reference point amongst the comity of democratic nations of the world.
He made this assertion while responding to questions on the democratic experience of Nigeria since 1999 and what stakeholders needed to do to fastback its gains for the benefit of Nigerian citizens.
According to Nwoko fondly called the Political Oshobe, “I think in my estimation that Nigeria hasn’t done badly since the inception of democracy in Nigeria. The enthronement of democratic values and systems has given every individual equal rights and opportunities to grow and attain their height within the Nigerian democratic environment.
“Though there has been issues with leadership and governance, it hasn’t taken away the fact that we have a democracy that is unbroken in the past 24 years.
“It is a growing child of circumstance, all we need do is pray for a turning point of good fortunes that will strengthen our resolve to live committed to Democratic principles.
“To me, our democracy is blossoming; we just need to tend to it the more by ensuring that the challenges of leadership and governance are adequately addressed.
“I bet you that with consistent tendering, we will soon get to the reference point of being called a true Democratic nation.
“I just wish to urge every Nigerian to remain focused and committed to the principles of democracy with a view to achieving our utmost desires, democratically”, Nwoko posited.
