Embattled Police Chief, Abba Kyari will remain in detention for 2 weeks, reports say.
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a request by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to further detain him and his suspected accomplices for 14 days.
According to Politics Nigeria, Justice Zainab Abubakar approved the detention order while ruling in an ex-parte application argued by the NDLEA counsel, Mike Kassa.
She also approved an order for the detention of Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus for 14 days in the NDLEA facility in Abuja pending investigation.
These the two drug dealers were arrested at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on Jan. 19 and are suspected accomplices of Kyari.
The judge ordered that the 14 days further detention should start counting from February 22. The NDLEA filed for the extension to enable its operatives investigate and quizz Kyari on his dealings with the drug barons.
It will be recalled that the disgraced police officer has been in detention since last week after he was declared wanted by the anti-drug agency. He was arrested by the police and handed over to the agency after he was discovered to be a member of a transnational drug ring.
