The Department of State Services (DSS) is alleged to be responsible for the shooting of one Auwal Hassan, 30, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally on Sunday in Bojude, Kwami LGA, Gombe State.

Reports have it that the victim had marched out with other villagers to meet Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s campaign train.

As claimed by Witnesses, the incident happened as a result of an unhealthy situation which aroused following the governor’s motorcade arrivial at the location of the campaign rally, a DSS employee’s gun discharged and struck Hassan in the leg.

After being shot, the victim reportedly collapsed, writhing in pain. This infuriated other youths, who began chanting “Ba mayi” (we don’t support you) at the campaign rally. It took the effort of other security personnel in the governor’s entourage before the rampaging youths were calmed down.

Governor Yahaya, who addressed the crowd shortly after the incident, ordered the immediate arrest of the DSS personnel for investigation. He also directed that the victim be taken to the hospital for treatment at the expense of the state government.

The governor also announced that he appointed the victim alongside four other youths from Bojude town as his Personal Assistant (PA). When contacted, the spokesman of the Gombe State Police Command, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, sought time to get the details of the incident but had not called back as of the time of filing the report.
