The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’aziz Yari.
According to POLITICS NIGERIA, Yari was arrested by the anti-graft body for his alleged role in the N84 billion fraud involving a former Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.
He was arrested by the EFCC at about 5pm on Sunday.
Yari allegedly benefited to the tune of N22 billion through Finex Professional from the N84 billion which Idris allegedly paid one Akindele.
His arrest came barely a day after he won the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for Zamfara West Senate seat.
Recall that the EFCC had last week taken the embattled Accountant General of the Federation into its custody for allegedly laundering and diverting public funds in excess of N80 billion, a development that prompted the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to suspend him from office and announce Anamekwe Nwabuoku as his tentative successor.
