At least eight chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are eyeing the Senate presidency ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that some senators-elect have begun lobbying for the presidency of the upper chamber.
This newspaper learnt that the senators-elect lobbying for the position of the number three citizen of Nigeria include: Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District; Kano North senator, Barau Jibrin; former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; former Edo State governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; Abdul-Aziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State; Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Mohammed Sani Musa; Borno politician, Ali Ndume; and Dave Umahi, the incumbent governor of Ebonyi State.
It is reported that the APC is moving to avoid a Muslim-Muslim/Muslim-Muslim leadership. However, the choice of the next senate president would largely depend on the zoning of the office, among other principal offices, by the leadership of the ruling APC.
Meanwhile, the Senators-elect would receive their certificates of return on Tuesday, while their House of Representatives counterparts would get theirs on Wednesday.
