Halima Shehu, the National Coordinator of Household Uplifting Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer (HUP – CCT) has revealed that in the past two months, the federal government has dispensed over N58 billion to the less privileged under the programme.
She revealed this on Thursday, November 12, while speaking in Yola, Adamawa State.
Detailing what the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) is all about, Halima disclosed that the program is targeted essentially at individuals who live in rural areas where poverty and hunger are on increase.
As indicated by him, it was started to help support development objectives with the priority of improving families consumption.
He said;
”As we are all aware that poverty and hunger are high and prevalent among rural dwellers, especially, female-headed households with poor sources of income in Nigeria.
“In furtherance to that, the Federal Government established the Household Uplifting Programme – Conditional Cash Transfer (HUP – CCT), with a slogan ‘ Beta don come’ to help alleviate the poverty of the poor.
In line with the programme, in the last two months, across the country, the Federal Government has disbursed the sum of N58 billion Naira to the less privileged.”
