Former Nigerian Ambassador to Venezuela and one-time Secretary to the Bayelsa state government, Felix Oboro has led twenty-six high powered members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Also joining the PDP in Bayelsa are former House of Reps members, Hon. Bolous Sylva Indiamaowei, Hon. Mike Epengule, and Hon. Graham Ipigansi.
Others who are returning are former Special Adviser on Security, Chief Richard Perekeme Kpodoh, Prince Bodi Arerebo, former Commissioner, Barrister Zuwa Konugah and Leader of Young Democratic Party, YDP, in the State, Mr. Elvis Donkemezuo.
Others are Chief Imomo Leigha F., Capt. Solomon Anthony,Rtd, Dr. A. C. Baralatei, Paris Digifa, Charity Raphael, Ebinepre Nelson and Tebepah Nelson.
Also expected to join the fold of the PDP in the State is the member of the State House of Assembly representing Ekeremor Constituency two, Hon. Ayakpo Wilson.
Emerald News learnt that the decision by the Oboro and other chieftains of the APC to dump the party was a protest against the poor state of the party leadership and the over bearing control of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva over the affairs of the party in the state.
Speaking at a meeting with the defecting APC members, Governor Douye Diri welcomed them back to the PDP.
A senior official of the PDP in the state claimed the APC defectors have become convinced that Governor Douye Diri is providing effective and good governance to Bayelsans and have resolved to support the Governor to deliver more to the people.
Meanwhile, the member representing Ekeremor constituency II and deputy minority leader of Bayelsa state house of assembly Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha may also join the fold of the PDP on Thursday.
In his pre-defection warning, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha sent a warning letter to the APC leadership in the state, emphasising the need for the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state to put its house in order.
Hon. Wilson said with the present scheme of things in the party, there is little or nothing to be desired. According to the legislator, the leadership of the APC in the state has a long way to go in setting aside personal differences and working in synergy for a common goal.
The lawmaker further enjoined Bayelsans to support the prosperity government of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri for the interest and development of the state.
The lawmaker also apologized to Senator Heineken Lokpobiri for any misunderstanding he might have had with him in the past.
