Denrele Edun, Bobrisky, James Brown, Others In Trouble As The National Assembly Move To Jail Them For Cross-Dressing.

The Federal House of Representatives, today, Tuesday, the 5th of April, 2022 introduced a bill seeking to ban cross-dressing in Nigeria.

Cross-dressing has become more common in Nigeria following the fame of the popular Instagram entertainer, first being Denrele and then, Bobrisky, who is born male and his birth name is Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju but has chosen to call himself a female and dress like the opposite gender.

A member of the House of Representatives, Umar Muda has presented before the chamber a bill seeking to stop the likes of Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun , Bobrisky, James Chukwueze Obialor.

It was gathered that the bill had passed through first reading on the floor of the chambers, with the proposal that would see anyone cross-dresses risking a 6 months in prison if passed.

The bill seeks to amend the same-s-x marriage (prohibition) act of 2013 by including cross-dressing as one of the offences under the act.

It is understood that same-s-x couples and gay persons in Nigeria are at risk of facing 14 years in jail if convicted by a court.

A part of the proposed bill reads, “A person engaging in cross-dressing is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment of 6 months or a fine of five hundred thousand naira”.
