President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and past District Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Dr. Olawale Cole has said the Nigerian economy can only receive a boost with good leadership in country and citizen support.
He made this known during the official visit of the District Governor, Rot. Omotunde Lawson to the club.
According to Olawale, the nation’s economy cannot advance with the current state of leadership and until her resources are adequately harnessed by good leadership the country may not get to promise land.
He said: ” the truth is that, all we need to make Nigeria work is good leadership. We have all that it takes. We have vibrant people and over 200 million intelligent people and we are also endowed with a lot of resources as a nation. All we need is leadership that will harness all the resources that will get us into the promise land. My hope and prayer, since we are looking forward into the new year for a new leadership, we pray God gives us a leader that will discharge for us those duties and take Nigeria to a peaceful, wonderful and a happy nation.”
“We know that things are not easy the way they are now but I can assure you that it is doable. Nigeria can be great , Nigeria can rise again and surely will arise . All we need is good leaders and citizens to support good leadership. I know that Nigerians are ready, if we have a good leader, they will follow.”
He also added that as a contribution to the country’s economy and growth, the club has launched micro-credit facilities to Nigerians, free cervical and prostrate cancer test, free test and donation of free eye glasses, and is set to deliver a world class cervical cancer centre to Isolo General hospital before the end of the rotary year.
He said: ” the DG is here and today to visit the over 40 years old club. The club was founded in 1981 and it continued to survive even and thrive and make good records in Nigeria as a club. The governor is our first female District Governor. There is no doubt that she is very very articulate, thorough and I can see her as a governor who will end up well after her year of service as a governor.”
He also urged Nigerians to encourage more women in leadership roles in the country.
Meanwhile, the District Governor, Mrs. Lawson applauded the Imaginative President of the club, Dr. Atilade Femi Oshoniyi for his exceptional leadership and contribution to the economy and lives of Nigerians.
She said his leadership role stands our amongst many in ensuring that no one is left behind in the developmental projects the club has been embarking on. She said: ” Rotary club of Isolo has done too much within one day and I have lost count. Starting from the medical examination for men and women, Cervical cancer screening, prostrate cancer screening, eye screening, donations of glasses to planting of trees. I went to Isolo General Hospital where I saw the massive building meant for cervical cancer that they are building.”
“I cannot believe that within one year such an edifices could be there which they have promised to deliver to the hospital fully equipped by the end of this rotary year. They have also empowered people in Collaboration wit Rotaract club an inner will club which is the direction that we want non-governmental organization to go now; to partner with such organization so that they can do bigger and more impactful things. This is what we can call full collaboration in action.”
