Better Days Are Indeed Ahead For Deltans With The MORE Agenda
Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, successfully celebrated his one year anniversary as the Governor of Delta State, on May 29, 2024. To God be all the Glory.
The past one year has been quite eventful in the life of the administration, but one thing which stands out very clearly is that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has kept faith with the pledge he made to Deltans, as he took the oath of office on May 29, 2023, when he said: “I accept with humility the responsibility which the good people of Delta State have bestowed upon me to serve as their Governor for the next four years. I accept it with a resolve to do MORE to ADVANCE the State to new heights in leadership and socio-economic development”.
There is no doubt whatsoever that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has delivered impressive dividends of Democracy to Deltans in the last one year. Indeed, on Thursday, May 29, 2024, at his first Anniversary celebration praise and worship event, the Governor declared: “I have kept faith with the people of Delta State…and the fair, objective, and realistic way to judge political leaders is by evaluating them by the promises they made while running for office.”
The evaluation of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s one year stewardship is quite commendable; the welfare of the State workforce received uncommon attention through the prompt payment of salaries, clearing the backlog of promotion arrears, as well as other incentives to boost their morale.
Indeed, within three months of assuming office; he settled the thorny issue of unpaid Local Government Pensions by securing legislative approval, with the guarantee of the State government, for the Local Governments to obtain a N40 billion bank loan, to enable them liquidate their backlog of pension liabilities.
The three senatorial zones are gradually basking in meaningful transformation as construction of infrastructure Projects, commencing with the stellar, signature legacy N78 billion Julius Berger flyovers project, and the other life impacting ongoing and completec Projects which dot the entire Delta landscape. Roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, markets, and others are the key projects being constructed or commissioned across the State by the Oborevwori administration.
Human capital development through socio-economic empowerment of Deltans with far-reaching skill acquisition packages including the recent roll out of M.O.R.E Grants to over 5,000 artisans and traders; the D-CARES Delta COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme which was upscaled to accommodate direct beneficiaries from 36,353 to 110,841 persons, have been hallmarks of the administration and the very impressive “You Matter Foundation”, the pet project of the First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori.
On the Enhanced Peace and Security component, Governor Oborevwori has already imbibed the philosophy that peace is priceless and has been managing the security challenges, both provoked and unprovoked with strategic, astute meticulousness and bold, unruffled ingenuity, galvanizing the various ethnic groups to live in harmony and peaceful co-existence.
The Health and Education sectors have been impacted on significantly with the comprehensive upgrade of infrastructure, addressing personnel challenges, especially with massive employment, dealing with ghost workers, and tackling the “Japa Syndrome”. And of course, Delta State coasted home to a well-deserved Sports victory in the National Youth Games, tagged “Asaba 2023”, as the MORE Agenda unfolded in the past one year.
As Governor Sheriff Oborevwori coasts into his second year in office, Deltans will no doubt witness the crystalization of more dividends of democracy, as the MORE Agenda continues to unfold with MORE and accelerated projects delivery, MORE Human Capital empowerment and enhancement and MORE Advancement for Delta and Deltans.
Better Days are indeed ahead for Deltans.
Governor Sheriff is working, and Deltans are seeing it.
