Dr. Michael Nwoko, the former Senior Special Assistant on Health Monitoring to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, says he is confident that the incumbent governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori will take the state to enviable heights.
He described the governor as a determined and passionate leader who is obviously committed to the course of governance.
He told Emerald News in an interview that “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta state is a determined man. If you aggregate all findings about him, you will come to the irresistible conclusion that Oborevwori is a firebrand.
“He is in a hurry to deliver promptly and above board on his assignment as the governor of Delta state. The footprints are there for people to see,” he said.
Assessing the feats attained by the governor within the two weeks in office, Dr. Nwoko said that he (Oborevwori) is on track to make Delta state a force to reckon with in the country.
He also expressed hope that the governor would consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor to lay enduring legacies in the state.
He stated: “It is not difficult for you to fathom a public officer who is ready for the job. What we have seen so far since he was inaugurated on the 29th of May is an indication that he is truly ready for the job.
“I do know that very shortly that Deltans will begin to see signals of positive signs to show we are on the right track. He is ready to effectively consolidate on the achievement of the immediate past governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.”
Highlighting the obstacles the governor has surmounted in his bid to lead the state, Dr. Nwoko maintained that he was under a divine call, hence he won all cases.
“Oborevwori is a child of destiny. I do know that what God has destined, no one can stop it. If it were by the postulation of man for him to become governor, I don’t think he would have become governor today. But one thing I know is that we could see the finger of God in his ascendance to the office of the governor.
“We saw the court cases. Over 30 court cases instituted against him and he prevailed and I know he will also prevail in view of the tribunal cases on ground. Again, he is not distracted, he is focused.
“He knows the previous cases were frivolous cases. He was not distracted. Of course, the cases were judiciously adjudicated upon. And today, we have him sitting as the governor of Delta state,” he said.
While emphasizing the importance of peace for the growth of any society, Dr. Nwoko urged Governor Oborevwori to borrow a leaf from Okowa’s peaceful administration.
He said, “There is no government that can perform in an atmosphere devoid of peace. You cannot even carry out your development plans, you cannot even bring about any kind of benevolence.
“You cannot serve the people when the society is not peaceful. For people to even comprehend the good works of government, there must be peace.
“I do know that Oborevwori was a stakeholder in the past administration. So, whatever Okowa did towards ensuring that peace and tranquility were guaranteed throughout the eight years of his administration, I do believe that Oborevwori understands more. I know he will bring his wealth of experience to bear so that his administration enjoys peace and tranquility.”
Describing him as a vibrant and visionary leader, he commended the governor for reflecting equity and fairness in the appointments he has made thus far, and called on him to assemble the best hands in order to help him deliver on the pact he had with the people of Delta, encapsulated under the MORE agenda.
Dr. Nwoko therefore called on Deltans to throw their weight behind the governor, so that they will reap the fruits of good governance.
“I seize this opportunity to call upon Deltans to support the administration of Oborevwori as he unveils his massive developmental plans.
“His administration will cut across the nooks and crannies of the state. I know Delta will not remain the same again. Give or take, what we will see on the ground before the end of the tenure, Deltans will be proud of him,” he stated.
