I Didn’t Know My Daughter Will Bring Death Distinction Home for Me- Mother Laments
The mother of 17- year- old student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- ife, Heritage Ajibola who fell into soakaway and died on Wednesday has recounted the last moment she had with her daughter.
She made this disclosure while speaking in an exclusive interview she granted BBC News Yoruba that few hours to her daughter’ s death, she advised her to face her study and graduate with distinction in her department.
She said she did not know her daughter with bring death distinction to her hours after they spoke.
Mrs. Ajibola said the death of her daughter came barely three weeks after she left home for school to continue her study.
The institution’ s P. R. O, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju sympathised with parents of Heritage. He described her death as unfortunate and wound that would take years to heal.
He revealed that the hostel where the 200- level student of the Department of Linguistics and African Languages died is manage by private individuals.
He clarified that the hostel is operating under Build, Operate and Transfer ownership to University after some years.
According to him, Heritage, who resided in one of the university’ s private hostels, BVER, fell into the septic tank of the hostel through an opening that was allegedly not properly covered.
The owner of the private hostel, where the incident occurred, has been queried by the university management and his response is being awaited.
All the hostels in the students’ village are privately owned and they are not under the control of the university.
” Immediately, we had the sad news, we reached out to OAU fire service and state’ s fire service in Osogbo to rescue her. The university management is sad about the loss of one of her promising students” .
