In a rare show of unity and camaraderie, youths from the oil bearing community of Beresibiri, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta Stae in Sapele elected Comrade Sunday Etchie as chairman of Beresibiri Community.
In an atmosphere devoid of rancour, Mr. Sunday Etchie polled majority votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr. Lucky Erike who had two votes.
Pa Okoro Johnson, a community leader said it was a free and fair election which produced Mr. Sunday Etchie as duly elected chairman.
Pa Johnson noted that he was very satisfied with the electoral process as everything went very smoothly and peacefully in the oil rich Itsekiri community.
“This is a community affair and I want the losers to embrace the winner. The winner and loser should think together to move the community forward. There should be no room for bitterness as we are all brothers at Beresibiri.”
The winner thanked the elders council of Beresibiri for conducting the election which he described as very transparent.
“I wish to thank everybody that supported me in one way or the other, directly or indirectly to actualize this dream.
“I will like to use this forum to appreciate the elders of the community both the women, the youths and residents, I am indeed grateful to them.
“I want to assure you that under my leadership, we are going to collectively transform our community to make our today better than our yesterday and our tomorrow even more comfortable for our children and ourselves.
“One of the contestants, Mr. Daniel Erike said he was very satisfied with the process, which he described as a family affair.
“I am prepared to work with the winner of the contest with a view to moving the community forward.
“I am from the same family with Sunny, the winner. He is my brother and I congratulated him immediately he was declared winner. There are no hard feelings we are one family.”
