The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended Jimi Lawal, a prominent political figure and former aide to ex-governor Nasir El-Rufai, citing alleged anti-party conduct and efforts to undermine internal democratic processes.
According to a statement by the party’s State Chairman, Femi Soluade, the disciplinary action follows what the ADC leadership described as attempts by Lawal to gain undue influence over party structures, including the alleged takeover of leadership organs in Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu local government areas.
Soluade said the suspension was part of a broader reorganisation to restore stability and uphold the ADC’s internal democratic framework.
He emphasised that the move was aimed at protecting equal participation across party tendencies ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
To maintain continuity, the Ogun ADC has appointed a caretaker committee to oversee state and local executive functions pending a formal state congress.
Soluade said additional appointments would be announced in the coming days as part of the party’s repositioning strategy.
Lawal has rejected the suspension, insisting that the state chairman lacks authority to expel or suspend him, and stated that party matters should be addressed by the national leadership.
