Femi Adebesin-Kuti, The Guardian’s photo editor, has passed away.
After a brief illness, the notable and experienced photojournalist succumbed to the cold hands of death on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
Kuti, known as ‘Eshin’ in the media and beyond, was a friendly journalist who nurtured and handled his craft with zeal and professionalism.
A statement issued by the NUJ Lagos chairman, Adeleye Ajayi, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and the Photojournalist Association of Nigeria.
The statement read, “We received the sad news of the passing of our dear brother, Femi Adebesin-Kuti, Photo Editor of the Guardian Newspapers which occurred in the early hours of today with great shock.
“We pray that God in his infinite mercy will uphold and stand by his immediate family and friends at this trying time as we sympathise with members of the Guardian Newspapers Chapel and the entire PJAN family.
His distinctness and dedication to duty were unrivaled at every assignment he covered, as he would always go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that no moment that needed to be captured escaped his lenses.
Kuti, a notable photojournalist who learned his craft from the best, covered countless sporting events in Nigeria, Africa, and around the world, most notably the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA World Cup events
Kuti, who was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, would be buried today in accordance with Islamic customs.
