The Senate has officially confirmed the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This move follows his recent resignation from the opposition party, citing internal crises and instability within the PDP as key reasons for his decision to join the APC.
Before this formal announcement, Nwoko had publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, saying that they did not provide him with the space to function effectively within the party.
As reported by Channels TV, a wave of thunderous chants erupted as Senator Nwoko was escorted to the majority wing of the Upper Chamber.
In addition to his defection, Nwoko made a call for the Senate to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the ongoing crisis within the PDP.
He stressed the importance of a strong and viable opposition to ensure Nigeria’s political landscape remains balanced and its democratic process robust.
