The Nigeria Labor Congress NLC has alleged that the federal government of Nigeria has expended the sum of 9.5billion Naira on repairs of four refineries of the country since 2016, but non is working till date.
National President of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation (AUPCTRE) Benjamin Anthony, made the disclosure in a press conference in Jos, Plateau state on Wednesday.
“From year 2016, till date, I can confirm to you that the federal government of Nigeria has expended over 9.5billion Naira on repairs of four refineries, but non is functioning.”
According the AUPCTRE president, the huge amount allegedly spent on fixing the said refineries have no positive economic impact on Nigerians.
“In Libia, I know of a refinery that has lasted 100 years, but is till functioning.”
Speaking on the NLC earlier shelved nationwide strike over purported withdrawal of subsidy on petrol, the NLC leader revealed that the policy was anti people.
“We (NLC) have observed that each time the federal government wants to increase pump price of petrol, they will say they are going to remove petrol subsidy.”
The NLC executive advised the federal government to fix the refineries “if government wants to remove subsidy, they should make our refineries work.”
Commenting on non regulations of pump price of petrol in Nigeria, Mr. Anthony charged the Department of Petroleum Regulations (DPR) to wakeup to it assigned responsibility.
It is sad to note that petrol filling stations in Plateau state are not regulated, each station sells petrol at its desired prices, thereby exploiting citizens.
