The Lagos State chapter of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly denied widespread reports claiming it has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 general elections, describing the circulating statement as fake and misleading.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Christopher Odianarewo, the Lagos PDP said President Tinubu is not a member of the party and has not received its endorsement. It stressed that neither the president, his administration, nor the policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have the backing of the Lagos chapter.
The party also questioned the authenticity of the viral statement, noting that it carried no identifiable author, official party logo, signature, or approval from any recognised organ of the PDP. According to the party, the document was deliberately circulated to create confusion among members and mislead the Nigerian public.
Reaffirming its official position, the Lagos PDP said it recognises the Interim National Working Committee (INWC), led by Dr. Tanimu Turaki (SAN), and the Board of Trustees chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara as the legitimate leadership of the party.
The opposition party added that it remains committed to the rule of law, internal democracy, and due process while resisting attempts to undermine its unity and credibility ahead of future elections.
It urged party members, stakeholders, media organisations, and the general public to ignore the false endorsement claim and remain vigilant against misinformation. The Lagos PDP also reiterated its determination to present what it described as a credible political alternative for Nigerians as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
