Lecturers of Delta state polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku have escaped from the campus premises following the heavy protest staged by students of the school over alleged extortion by the school management.
Emerald News reports that the students blocked the entrance to the school as lecturers and other staff of the school took to their heels and fled.
One of the lecturers who spoke to our correspondent said that he had to turn his car back from the road as he heard of the protest at the campus.
Another lecturer also said his course was to be written today but he had to stay away from school and remain at home. He is even happy the school is on hold for the moment so that he could rest.
The students of the school are angry that management of the school imposed N7000 levy on a course allegedly introduced by the Rector for final year students of the school.
The course said to be Computer Certification, according to some students was introduced only to ND and HND students who have a short time left on campus.
Other fees imposed on the students were COVID-19 levy of N4000, paying for binding of projects, which reports say the school never does but the.money has been collected.
When contacted, the embattled Rector of the polytechnic, Mrs. Stella Chiemeke, failed to defend allegations leveled against the school by the students.
The Rector rather said: “Allow us to do our work, we have to calm the situation down before you interview me, thank you.”
