The Mayor of Urhoboland who’s also a prominent personality among Niger Delta ex-militant leaders, Eshanekpe Israel a.k.a Akpodoro, has called for a concerted efforts against hunger and insecurity in the land.
The call, he noted, becomes necessary following recent discoveries that commodity merchants were deliberately hoarding food items and other essential commodities to create artificial scarcity for price to rise.
Akpodoro who was unanimously voted to become the Mayor of Urhoboland by the Okpako Orere of Gbaregolor Community in Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State South-South Nigeria stated this in his 2nd year anniversary message to Nigerians.
The message is titled: “Now Is When To Wage War Against Hunger and Insecurity in the Land.”
The Mayor’s message commended the people of Urhobo nation in particular and Nigerians in general over what he described as their patriotism, solidarity, patience and resilience to awaiting a renewed hope as promised by the current administration.
He admonished Nigerians not to relent in their hope for a better and greater Nigeria, noting that in no distance time the gains of the economic adjustment programmes of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration will begin to yield what he described as a bumper harvest.
Mayor Akpodoro stated further in his anniversary message to the nation that now is when to fight the hydra-headed monster of hunger and those who are deliberately sabotaging the efforts of the government at birthing a new Nigeria.
The Mayor commended the federal government for sealing off Sahad Supermarket Abuja for price fixing and discriminately saying this is the time for Nigerians to join hands to fight the enemies of who are hellbent on destroying “our nation.”
On the second leg of his demand on the federal government, Mayor Akpodoro noted, is the insecurity pervading the entire landscape of Nigeria, a development he said, is within the powers of the federal government to crush.
Commending the Nigerian military, the Mayor said, it’s no news that “our military can overrun any criminal gang in this country, no matter how much sophisticated they are.
“I call on President Tinubu to roll out the tanks and face those who have vowed to destroy Nigeria. We have no other country to call our own. This is the more reason we must join hands with the government to make notable progress in food security and the secuirty of lives and properties.
“About the scheduled meeting between the manufacturers of cement and the federal government, the Mayor said if the cement producers choose to keep the price of cement high, the government should massively issue licence to other business interests to open the floodgate for cement importation into the country.
“Until a bag of cement goes for 1,500 naira/bag, the Nigerian government should open the floodgate for massive importation into the country. Enough of the monopoly of the bourgeois. Nigerians are not their slaves.”
In another development, Mayor Akpodoro has restated his call on the federal government to sack the Interim Administrator of Presidential Programme, PAP Mr. Barry Ndiomu noting that he is an enemy of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
