The National Youth Council of Nigeria, a constitutional body established by act of parliament, 1964, Delta North wing, has honoured Prince Ned Nwoko, the Delta born Antarctica explorer and the present Delta North People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate in the 2023 senatorial election.
The Youth council, made a courtesy call at Nwoko’s country home, Mount Ned, Idumuje-Ugboko, on Wednesday, 8 February, 2023, to formally identify with him.
They came, bearing an eye-catching banner of the senatorial candidate, to honour him and to further solidify their support for him.
Speaking, the Chairman of the council, Delta North wing, Comrade Okorie Kenneth, stated that, though, they are voluntary supporters of Nwoko, but they cannot be working in isolation, there is need to meet and identify with him in person, hence the visit.
Kenneth stated that, as a council, they understand the importance of having a cohesive government team. Noting that, with a complete team, the representatives can work in unity of purpose. Therefore, the Delta North youths started a grassroot approach to sensitize the people about the need for a “complete team” and implications of mismatching votes.
Taking a swipe at the dilapidated economic state of the country, orchestrated by the government of the day, Kenneth said, “We hope to correct the mess APC administration made through our votes. That is why we are actively charging electorates to collect their PVCs.”
Lauding Nwoko, Kenneth pointed out that, the antecedents of the senatorial candidate speak volumes. He admired Nwoko’s humility and his disposition to formalities.
“The privilege of meeting with you in person, is the best thing a politician can give to the people. If we cannot reach other of your team members directly, we are certain that we can reach you in person. That is enough reason for us to support the complete team”, Kenneth said.
Responding, Nwoko acknowledged the efforts of the Youth council towards making Nigeria a better nation. Stressing that, it takes the effort of everyone to build a nation.
He said, “It will take the commitment, the discipline, the sacrifice of your time and comfort to realise that Nigeria we desire.
“Life in Nigeria may seem normal, but that’s because you have not experienced life elsewhere. If you do, you will understand that nothing is working in Nigeria.
“The essence of governance has been defeated in Nigeria. As individual citizens, we provide virtually everything needed for human survival on our own.
“We build our roads, we provide our own security, we provide our own electricity, we build our own health facilities and other important amenities needed for survival.”
Nwoko, however, pointed out that the hardship and infrastructural deficits in Nigeria are not just the upshots of bad governance, but also, that of bad followership.
He further assured the people that he is not going to the senate to compromise his deal. “There is a lot to be done in Nigeria. I know exactly what needs to be done. I am not going to the senate to compromise my deal. I know what I want to achieve for the people as a senator.
“I am determined to championing the people’s cause, but I cannot do it alone. I must have a complete team to be able to perform effectively as a senator”, Nwoko reiterated.
The dogged legal consultant reaffirmed that, everything he will do as a senator would be for humanity. He stressed that, he would not make distinction between political parties when he finally emerges as a senator. “I want to see a government that will put the people first”, he said.
