The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has asked all Nigerians to reduce the rate of travelings and social gatherings as cases of COVID-19 infections are on the increase.
The director general of the disease control agency, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, has repeatedly told Nigerians to strictly observe the COVID-19 protocols but Nigerians have blatantly refused to obey the directives of the NCDC.
The violations stem from the fact that Nigerians have not seen reasons to believe the figures and the statement from the NCDC. To most Nigerians, apart from those in government, the noise being made by NCDC is aimed at milking the government of money and enriching themselves.
However, in this period of festivities, the NCDC is warning Nigerians against unnecessary travels and gathering in large crowd. It said the disease is transmitted in such places unknown to the people.
Part of the message reads: “We may want to be with family and loved ones this festive season but COVID-19 spreads when people move around. Please, take responsibility by avoiding all travels.”
Another one reads: “Avoid large gatherings, celebrate and worship at home with close family. Wearing a mask is better than wearing a ventilator, take responsibility.”
