The revered Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) John Chike Edozien, has commended Senator Ned Munir Nwoko for his outstanding representation of the Delta North senatorial district.
During Senator Nwoko’s recent visit to the Asagba’s palace, the traditional ruler praised the senator’s influential presence in the Senate, noting that Ned Nwoko is among the senators that speak, and colleagues listen, despite him being in the Minority.
“Ned Nwoko needs no introduction; his face and name are well-known to us. From my observations of Senate proceedings, Ned stands out as a senator whose words carry weight, even in the Minority. Congratulations once more, and thank you for representing Anioma admirably in the Senate. Kudos.
“On behalf of all traditional rulers, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and appreciation for your dedicated service to our people. May God continue to guide you, and may all be well with you.” Asagba expressed.
Senator Ned Nwoko spent a significant part of his short holiday with his constituents in Delta North. He and his family have been in his hometown, Idumuje-Ugboko, in Aniocha North local government, since December 31, 2023, and returned to Abuja on Wednesday, January 10, to attend various crucial meetings before the Senate reconvenes in less than two weeks.
During his stay, Senator Nwoko not only hosted various families and groups but also visited key political figures in Delta State, including His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, and the immediate past Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, among others.
Senator Ned Nwoko held meetings with the leadership of local governments and members of the state House of Assembly representing constituencies within the Delta North senatorial district. The meetings were strategic, aligning with the senator’s promise of synergistic representation, where all political leaders would have to meet either in groups or individually to provide accounts of their representation regularly to ensure unparalleled grassroots representation.
He also held meetings with the general constituents and provided space for critical voices, adhering to his pledge during the election campaign to create an open platform for constituents to voice their ideas. Interestingly, a seven-month critique has emerged, focusing on the senator’s national attention rather than local lobbying for a fair share of the 2024 budget. Some constituents expressed concerns about the allocation of the senator’s focus.
However, this criticism appears perplexing and has been regarded by many as lacking logical reasoning. This is due to the fact that Senator Ned Nwoko was the first senator in his set to kickstart empowerment programs within months of assuming office, even before the 2024 budget was presented. Many have stated that the lawmaker did not achieve such a remarkable feat by just idling away in the Senate or paying attention only to Bills.
He undoubtedly knows his duties and the right connections, hence his ability to launch a digital marketing program where participants received N150,000 each as empowerment, as well as a free medical outreach spanning across the three federal constituencies in Delta North, all in less than six months of assuming office. It is also important to mention that the senator’s legislative efforts, including bills passed into law, ultimately benefit grassroots communities.
Although the senator promised transparent and inclusive governance, which in his defence, he is living up to, one cannot help but notice his flair for pleasantly surprising initiatives.
During his visit to the Asagba’s palace, the senator reiterated his commitment to ensuring that everything due to the people reaches them. He reassured traditional rulers of his collaborative stance, emphasizing his dedication to working closely with them for the progress of Anioma.
