President of Coalition of Ndokwa Peace Ambassadors (CONPA), Chukwuka Alex Uboh, had said that members of his group, a peace advocate in Delta state, have made spirited efforts to see the governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, but their efforts have not yielded any good results. And this has been for the past six years.
Uboh told journalists during the celebration of CONPA sixth anniversary at Chadef Hotel in Asaba that his group has some privileged security information to share with the governor arising from the work they have done as peace aevocates with the grassroots in Ndokwa nation.
The peace promoter said for the past six years the group has campaigned peace, and harmonious living among people of Ndokwa extraction and the entire Delta state.
He also said the group has visited orphanage homes, prisons, and carried.out peace sensitisation campaigns in the three local government aread of Ndokwa East, West and Ukwuani.
Emerald News reports that the major pain of CONPA is the effect of cultism in Ndokwa nation and other vices which have continuously threatened peaceful coexistence. Uboh said his group has called the attention of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa but the governorr has not responded to any of their messages. And the reason remains unknown.
He added that CONPA has worked within the grassroots in the fight against cultism and is calling on Delta youths to shun cultism and join hands with the state government to build a virile and peaceful Delta state.
He added that Ndokwa nation has a lot of crisis but he is calling for peace and an end to whatever that is going on in the area. He mentioned cultism, communal crisis, herdsmen clashes with farmers and kidnapping as some of the major challenges in Ndokwa nation and Delta state.
He insisted that CONPA has intelligent report to share with the governor, hence, he said: “We want to see the governor one on one and tell him these things. These are highly classified security issues we want to discuss with the governor.”
Garvin Ugboma, a Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Community Relations, said CONPA has been pursuing peace in Ndokwa land and Delta since its establishment six years ago.
Ugboma told Emerald News that the body has been campaigning for peace, and fighting cultism, rape, in Ndokwa land. He advised them to continue in the path they have chosen.
He said youths are the major culprits of crime, hence CONPA members being youths, they should employ their youthful energies to campaign against the evils in society.
Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Delta state chapter and also South South chairman, Kenneth Okorie, expressed happiness identifying with CONPA in the sixth year anniversary.
He said: “They are helping us to campaign for peace all over Ndokwa nation and Delta state. We are always calling for peace so that development can come to Delta state.
“We are joining voice with them and other Nigerians to call for restructuring in Nigeria and we also support the Southern Nigerian governors call for ban of open grazing across the country.”
