The National President of Niger Delta Youth for Good Governance, Comrade Lucky Ukueku, has condemned the recent remarks by the Urhobo Youth Wing of Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM), describing its attack on the Head of the Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown Incorporated, Mayor Eshanekpe Israel Akpodoro, as “baseless and ill-informed.”
Ukueku, who is also the first elected Executive National President of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Scholarship Students Worldwide, said he was shocked at the comments credited to the youth wing’s leader, Mr. Sweet Otiotio.
He faulted Otiotio’s criticisms of Mayor Akpodoro, noting that the latter has consistently demonstrated commitment to the Urhobo nation. “Where was Mr. Sweet Otiotio when Mayor Akpodoro mobilized Urhobo youth and ex-militants in support of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori during the 2023 elections?” Ukueku queried.
According to him, Akpodoro’s role was pivotal in rallying grassroots support that helped secure victory for Oborevwori against Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
He, however, lamented that instead of acknowledging Akpodoro’s contributions, critics were now attempting to discredit him because he has openly spoken against what he described as the failings of the current Delta State administration.
“Mayor Akpodoro is speaking truth to power, pointing out lapses in governance. Instead of addressing these issues, people like Mr. Otiotio resort to name-calling and falsehood,” Ukueku said.
The youth leader further challenged Otiotio to substantiate his claims, particularly regarding allegations of mismanagement of Amnesty Programme funds. He posed three questions to the HOSTCOM youth leader:
To name anyone Mayor Akpodoro had sidelined in the manner he accused Governor Oborevwori of doing.
To identify anyone the governor had elevated to wealth apart from his son.
To mention one successful project commissioned by any commissioner under the current administration.
Ukueku accused Governor Oborevwori of disappointing loyal supporters and running what he described as a lackluster government.
“I was Vice Chairman of PDP in Ughelli South LGA during his election. I know the sacrifices made to deliver him. But today, many appointees and supporters are complaining of betrayal,” he said.
Reaffirming his support for Akpodoro, Ukueku described him as a “brand built on integrity and years of tireless service to the Urhobo nation and humanity at large.” He urged Otiotio and others to respect the Mayor’s contributions rather than attempt to diminish his influence.
