A video which surfaced online has shown how a man was harassed and almost beaten to stupor by a food vendor over the newly designed naira notes.
It was gathered that the young man who is yet -to -be identified took a thousand naira of the new notes to buy food but upon time of payment, the food seller rejected the money as she claims “to have not seen that money before in Nigeria”.
The food seller was seen yelling at the man “Give me money immediately, you nor get money, you come buy food”?
Emerald News reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele ,had announced the federal government’s plans to redesign the denominated notes, adding that the old notes would cease to be legal tender by January 31, ,2023.
The newly designed notes which became legal on December 15, 2022 is swiftly getting into the hands of Nigerians as banks are approved to disburse them to customers.
A passerby who tried to settle the dispute between them after hearing the incident, however, asked “this money dey Nigeria?” and dragged the man to pay up his bills.
The food vendor who tore the man’s trousers insisted that the newly designed note is “fake” and kept on screaming for help.
She rained abuses on in yoruba language “Ole Ole”, you don’t have money but came to buy food”, she said as she finally let go off him.
