In evaluating what the future holds for Delta State in terms of good governance, bearing in mind the monumental achievements of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor, and the continuity of his well chosen successor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in partnership with a passionately progressive Senator-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prince Ned Nwoko, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr Michael Nwoko has projected a period that will witness seaming sustainability in growth and development of the State.
Speaking from a position of participation to the media, Dr Nwoko took a cursory look at the indices that informed his positive evaluation of where we were and where we will be in the near future as a State.
It may interest you to know that the medical personnel turned politician is not just an SSA with no specified work schedule; his office is fully loaded with activities and functions.
As the SSA to the governor on Health Monitoring and Coordinator of the Delta State Health Monitoring Team, the task is enormous, yet as a highflyer, the system always craves to add more to his portfolio.
From this vantage position, he has scored the outgoing Governor excellent in performance and achievements; and based on his deep understanding of the system, believes that the incoming administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori will do more to advance development, anchoring on the legacies of his predecessor.
However, in Dr Nwoko’s assertion, a lot of connecting factors will make this legacy of development sustainable for the benefit of Deltans.
He pointed out that Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko, the incoming Senator representing Delta North Senatorial district will be a key player in the emerging Delta State of MORE development.
The SSA argued that Ned Nwoko is not a novice in the business of governance and boosting of the economy for viability and progress.
In his words, “Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko at the inception of democracy in Nigeria, played a key role in pioneering legislative activities that set the pace for the future of Nigeria in terms of lawmaking and oversighting the executive.
“Though he left government after the first dispensation, he never went away from governance. He continued to contribute his compulsory, passionate and patriotic quota to nation building in all facets of human endeavours.
“One of his creative tendencies saw to the rescue of Nigeria from sliding into the worst economic recession the country would have witnessed in its entire existence. That Paris Club Refund was monumental and it acted as a stabilising factor for the economic recovery of Nigeria.
“Going forward, Ned Nwoko had supported different agencies of government to come up with initiatives that he also created avenues for their funding and sustenance. One of such is the Malaria Eradication Project, an initiative that is giving Nigeria and Africa a direction in vaccine research and production, and of course, the clean up of the Nigerian environment.
“He has also gone ahead to build a sports University named the Sports University of Nigeria (SUN), which is the first in sub Sahara Africa with the humanistic focus on building on the talents of less privileged youths in the society.
“Today, Ned Nwoko is a Senator-Elect with one single agenda – to speak and defend the rights and welfare of Nigerians, particularly his kits and kins of the Anioma extraction. Money, social capital and crave for power never propelled him to contest for the office of a Senator, but the love of his people and his place of birth. His unquenchable thirst for service has always navigated his passion towards politics, where he will be able to reach a sizable number of those in need of help”, Dr Nwoko noted.
As we clinch closer to the next dispensation of governance, we look forward to seeing the governor-elect putting machinery in motion to work in synergy with the only Senator-Elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State to achieve MORE development, anchoring on the sustainability of the legacy achievements of the Gov. Okowa led administration.
