Okowa’s wife meets with 92 female councilors in Delta, what they discussed will interest you
The 92 female councilors across the 25 local government areas of Delta state have been charged to ensure that they live and act true to the loyalty they profess, especially to their political leaders.
The wife of the state Governor, Dame Edith Okowa gave the charge yesterday during an interactive session with the female councilors at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
Addressing the women, she said, “Never forget where you are coming from and ensure your loyalty is true, especially to your leaders.
“Anyone who is of a double standard cannot receive anything good. Remain loyal to those you have identified as your leaders, let humility be your cloak of office as you relate with others”, she admonished.
The wife of the Governor used the opportunity to speak to the women on the importance of their relationships with God in order to stand tall in their endeavours.
“Attacks will come, there will be conspiracies, no matter how little you see your position to be, you will always have people who will envy you.
“And as such, you will need God to fight for you and to protect you from the schemes of both the enemies you know and the ones you are not sure of.
“I need you to see your positions as a privilege from God. Thus you should by no means abuse the grace and gift of God upon your life. See yourselves as being on an assignment for God Himself.
“With this mindset, you will be successful at carving a niche for yourselves as female political leaders and by so doing, you can enjoy the possibility of being promoted to a higher level”, she said.
Responding to possible criticisms to her constant mention of God in her meetings, the wife of the Governor emphasized that there was no life outside God.
“We are all nothing without God, no matter the positions we occupy. If He does not keep us alive, there is nothing we can do about our plans and aspirations, no matter how lofty they are.
“I have seen persons taking drugs to enable them sleep but I have never seen anyone take any drug to wake up. This is the reason I keep living to please this God who is the giver of life.
“Honouring God has been of a huge blessing to me and I would be wicked, ungrateful and selfish not to tell you to follow Him as well”, she explained.
Dame Okowa prayed for the women and presented clothing gifts to all of them, while assuring them that they would work as her foot soldiers across the various LGAs.
The women on their part extended their appreciation to the wife of the Governor for always extending her hand of charity through her pet project, the O5 Initiative.
They at different times, gave assurance that they would utilize the opportunity of leadership to make a lasting mark, while helping their various wards become better.
