Omo-Agege panics as Gbagi’s popularity sweeps through Delta, renders his Oginibo visit fruitless
The visit of the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, was greeted with low turnout, following the rejection of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the people of Oginibo community in Ughelli south local government area of Delta state.
Senator Omo-Agege, who is representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly (NASS), was in Oginibo to visit a chieftain of APC, Isaiah Kekeje, but was faced by the ground swelling popularity of Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi.
It was learnt that apart from people in his entourage, indigenes of the community, the country home of the People Democratic Party (PDP), governorship aspirant, Olorogun Gbagi, boycotted the event.
It was also gathered that the community distanced itself from the meeting, as the leadership of Oginibo community was also not in attendance.
A community leader, Elder Isaac Egbavwerha said: “The executive that currently leads Oginibo were not in attendance. They said they are not APC members.
“As large as Oginibo community, the women, men and even the youths that attended the visit were not up to 10. It was only those who came with him from other places that were attendance.
“No Oginibo indigene apart from about 10 came around”, he said.
Meanwhile, community youths, women and men who have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of the illustrious son, Barr. Gbagi, were seen chanting solidarity songs for his governorship ambition come 2023.
But knowing that the people of Oginibo rejected Omo-Agege’s visit, one Aminugo Williams quickly rushed to WhatsApp group where he attempted to salvage the situation, claiming that Oginibo community rejected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Omo-Agege had, on Saturday, boasted in Illah, Oshimili North community where he and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi went to inspect a road project that his party would overrun the PDP in the entire South South region of the country.
Omo-Agege told the gathering of the community that the APC would clean up the zone, and that by 2023 the PDP would be a forgone party in the South South region.
However, through out the South South region made up of six states, all the governors are members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
All the members of the National Assembly in the zone with the exemption of a few, are PDP members. In Delta, there is only one APC member out of the 10 House of Representatives members from the state.
Also, with the lingering crisis and division in the Delta state chapter of the APC, it will be herculean task for the party to win any seat in the National Assembly not to talk of winning governorship election. His fractured APC will definitely be his undoing. He needs to mend the broken fences of the party before venturing into 2023 election
