The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and Senator representing Delta Central senatorial district in the National Assembly (NASS), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has tasked members of the Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF), on professionalism.
The Deputy Senate President, who was represented at the 2021 convention of the Delta Online Publishers Forum public lecture with the theme: “Niger Delta Economy: Building A New Face For The Region”, in Asaba called on journalists to be factual and fair in their reportage.
He tasked members of the forum to always do a reappraisal of online publishing on the society just as he acknowledged the critical roles they play.
“It is not a doubt, online publishers play a critical role in society. It is very important that through the online space, civic participation in Nigeria has grown that even our people have to participate in civic discussions.
“Publishers need to develop sources and represent the diversity of facts of the the people they serve particularly in our clime that is multi ethnic and multi religious.
“Let me remind the members of Delta Online Publishers Forum not to forget the purpose of online publishing which is all about information dissemination and educating the people.
“I therefore call on the online publishers to distinguish themselves at all times and follow the path of prosperity, fairness and truth.
“Members of this forum should abide and operate in the traditional ways of developmental journalism which is through investigations. Ethical standard is essential.
“I therefore hope that the online publishers in Delta state will imbibe professionalism in their publishing. I charge you on the need to uphold ethical practices and help in building better Delta and better Nigeria”, he added.
