In preparation of the 2023 General Elections, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has maintained that political parties must pay before campaigning in the state where he leads.
He made this disclosure at the inauguration of the Aluu-Omagwa Link Road, stating that the money paid serves as maintenance for any damages caused during the campaign.
Wike further revealed Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, paid him before campaigning in his state.
He stressed that he supported their campaign with vehicles and securities as they followed due process before campaigning in his state, afterwhich they left.
As stated by Wike, “If other parties applied, Peter Obi came, I gave him Elekiahia, the Gowon Liberation Stadium, I provided vehicles, I provided securities, and they paid, and they went for their campaign.” Have they not left?
So if you want to campaign, apply to us, we would give you the biggest stadium”, he said.
