Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra state and the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, said he is surprised federal government has not yet responded to the ravaging flood in Bayelsa state, despite three weeks of massive flooding in the state.
As reported by THE NATION, Obi expressed his surprise during his visit to the state to commiserate with the state governor, Governor Douye Diri and to visit the internally displaced persons.
The Labour Party flag bearer said flying into the state in a chopper offered him a better aerial view of the situation, he stressed that the state needs urgent help.
Obi calls on federal government to declare an emergency over the flooding in parts of the country, using Bayelsa as a case. He pointed out that Bayelsa state is strategic to the economy of Nigeria, hence deserves more from the centre. At the Oxbow Lake IDP camp, Obi pledged to an undisclosed amount.
Governor Diri expressed his profound gratitude to Peter Obi for his show of love and kindness towards his people. He however acknowledged president Buhari for directing federal rescue and disaster management agencies to help the state.
