Authorities of the Bayelsa state police command have confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Tari Logos over the July 22nd shooting to death of a local businessman, Chief Abraham Bayefa along the Aritalin Junction area of Ovom community in Yenagoa Local Government area of the State..
Our reporter gathered that the deceased, Chief Abraham Bayefa, was shot dead at close range by the suspected cultists for intervening while they were attempting to raid and dispose owners of some business centres close to his house.
According to the Niece of the decease, Miss Timipa Bayefa confirmed to leadership that “he was shot dead on the spot by 2 armed cultists while robbing in a shop close to his house at Aritalin Junction, Ovom, Yenagoa. The incident occurred on 22nd of July at around 3pm”.
It was further gathered that one of the suspects was immediately apprehended by the local vigilante and taken to the Police while his accomplice escaped.
It was gathered that one of the suspects, who is currently in police custody, reportedly confessed to the crime. However, he said it was his partner who pulled the trigger that killed Chief Abraham .I. Bayefa.
The family of the deceased, however, alleged that the police authorities are demanding for a sum of N150, 000 as autopsy fee to confirm if it was the bullets from the suspect that killed him before charging the matter to court.
And the deceased family claimed that they don’t have such amount of money to carry-out an autopsy.
The family of the deceased however pleaded with civil society groups including the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) to assist in ensuring that the killers of their father are brought to book.
Contacted on the development, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the development, said” One of the suspect Tari Logos 21years, is being detained at state CID and Investigation is ongoing to arrest his cohorts”
