Presidency gives reasons why Buhari backs Giadom as APC chairman

The crisis befalling the embattled national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole may lead to his final exit from office of the chairman of the APC even after the purported lifting of the suspension placed on him by his ward executives in Etsako West local government area of Edo state.

Facts emerging from the presidency on Wednesday night give credence to the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari has given his nod to Victor Giadom to take over as chairman of the APC amidst the crisis rocking the party following the suspension of Oshiomhole by his ward executives and the pronouncement of the court in Abuja.

A the pronouncement by the court in Abuja last week Tuesday, the APC quickly announced Senator Abiola Ajimobi as acting national chairman but Giadom moved against them, saying he is the authentic acting chairman in the absence of the party national chairman.

ON Wednesday, news emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari had given nod to the leadership of Giadom, hence he supported him becoming acting chairman of the party in the interim. Although tongues are wagging, the presidency has given reasons why Buhari has accepted the leadership of Giadom against the popular view of the a faction of the national working committee of the APC.

In a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, he said the president has been convinced that the law is on the side of Giadom, hence his support for him as acting national chairman of the party.

He said: “The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as acting national chairman
“Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the president will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.

“We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter.

“In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our governors and the leaders of the National Assembly.”

In a similar vein, personal assistant to the president on new media, Bashir Ahmad, said: “President Muhammadu Buhari will be attending tomorrow’s APC NEC meeting (virtual) convened by Victor Giadom. The President believes that the law is on the side of Giadom as the Acting Chairman of the party.”
