The Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators of the Phase 2 Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, on June 1, 2024, elected Honourable Kingsley Muturu as its Chairman after a keenly contested election. He’s to steer the affairs of that phase in the next two years.
The election was organised by the Livinus Alex Odudu – led Electoral Committee, who declared Hon. Muturu winner of the election.
According to the Electoral Committee Chairman for the Coalition, “having polled the highest number of votes cast, I hereby declare Honourable Kingsley Muturu, winner of the election.”
Honourable Muturu, who polled 41 votes, defeated his closest rival; Salvation Rufus Ebina, who scored a total of 37 while Olotu Wanemi Omubo and Stephen Ebisitie, polled 7 votes each. The total accredited votes were 92, while there was no report of invalid vote.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman said his leadership will build a workable collaboration with the Amnesty Office and ensure that beneficiaries enjoy a new lease of life adding that he will foster a healthy relationship between the Dr Dennis Otuaro-led management of PAP, ex-militant leaders and others.
As soon as the announcement of Muturu as the winner of the election, the atmosphere was electrified as ex-agitators trooped out in jubilation, confirming the free and fair nature of the election.
The electoral committee also declared the results for other positions contested and won by other victorious candidates at the breath-taken contest as John Esuku, Vice Chairman; Master Okoria, Secretary; Collins Arigo, Public Relations Officer and Gift Agamene, Public Relations officers.
Others include Otonye Suoipre, Treasurer, and Abraham Ekokotu, who emerged as the Financial Secretary of the Coalition.
At the well-attended with all ex-agitators of Phase 2 Amnesty Programme and many others across phases who came to witness the contest in solidarity with their candidates was the Mayor of Urhoboland and prominent ex-militant leader, His Excellency Eshanakpe Israel a.k.a Akpodoro who described the election as free, credible and fair noting that it is a new in the Amnesty Programme. He noted that with the crop of the leadership of the Coalition, there be a boost in the relationship between the Phase and PAP office.
“I call on the new leadership of the Phase 2 Amnesty Programme to build a sustainable synergy between the Coalition and the office of the Coordinator of the Programme. To my mind, I know this leadership will deliver quality service and would not disappoint us who reposed our confidence in them.” Mayor Akpodoro stated.
