Acting president of Committee for the Defense of Human Rights CDHR Prince Kehinde Taiga has said that embattled deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari, should pull of Nigeria’s police uniform and move to the United States to face charges preferred against him by the US Frderal Bureau of Investigation FBI.
Abba Kyari Nigeria’s celebrated crime burster has been in the news within the last few days for the wrong reasons. He is accused by the FBI of involvement in illicit financial deals with Hushpuppi, who is facing trial in the United States of America over issues of cyber crime and internet fraud.
Reports say Hushpuppi has duped many firms across most western countries of the world while he lives very luzurious life in Dubai, United Arabs Emirate. He was arrested after series of investigations with discoveries of emails he hacked and other cyber fraud.
On Thursday, the internet went aghast with news of celebrated Nigeria cop Kyari implicated by Hushpuppi having a share in his illicit financial runs. Having carried out investigations, the FBI called for the arrest and extradition of Kyari to the US to face charges and defend himself.
Reports also say the FBI had written and visited the Nigeria police force and requested the Inspector general of police, Usman Baba Alkali to release Abba Kyari for prosecution in the United States of America.
Following the indictment of Kyari, acting president of the foremost human rights body in Nigeria CDHR has demanded the embattled cop to pull off the Nigeria police uniform and move over to the United States.
He told Emerald News that agreed that Abba Kyari has done well in crime bursting, having arrested big time criminals, like Evans, Kyari has soiled his hard earned reputation with his affinity with Hushpuppi, a celebrated international fraudster.
He said most police officers work based on the belief that they are going to benefit from what they do for people as part of their constitutional duties. “Among Nigeria police, anyone that is working well is hoping to get something in return,” Taiga said. He faulted the speedy response of Abba Kyari to the call of Hushpuppi if it is true.
He said it is wrong for a crime fighter to be in a relationship with a fraudster.
He said: “Everybody knows Hushpuppi that he has no job doing outside the country. He has no job attached to his name. If somebody is living luzurious life without verifiable means of livelihood, that person is either a fraudster, kidnapper or armed robber. So, he cannot say he does not know the secret deals of Hushpuppi.”
Hence, he noted: “Abba Kyari should be detained and committed to investigation. Thereafter, he should be extradited to the US to face the FBI. He should drop Nigeria police uniform before leaving for the United States of America.
“In any rumour, there is element of truth and for the fact that Abba Kyari came out publicly to say that Hushpuppi saw his native clothes and sent N300K to sew such clothes for him, he has nailed himself. He also said only a call Hushpuppi made to him to arrest a man. He quickly responded, mobilised his men and arrested the man.
“If I call him now that my family is under threat, will he detail his men to go and arrest them? He will be looking for mobilisation. Police respond to only those who can mobilise them. It is only when people have been murdered that they respond to distress calls.”
