Anambra state is proud that the first university graduate to join the Nigeria Armed Forces, late Dim Emeka Odimegwu Ojukwu was a worthy son of ‘Ndi Anambra’.
The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano said this through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba while sending his heartfelt condolences to the wives and family of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and other officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the recent plane crash in Kaduna Airport.
Chief Obiano also said that late Odimegwu Ojukwu was a son of Nigeria’s wealthiest man in the 1950s, from Nnewi in Anambra state.
The governor noted that despite the late Ojukwu obtained a master’s degree in Modern History from Oxford University, United Kingdom, he joined the Armed Forces as a non commissioned officer and later rose through the ranks.
According to him, Anambra state is blessed with human resources who have made indelible marks in the sand of time in their various careers.
Ojukwu was a crusader of equity which ignited him to champion the fight for Biafra nation.
He later ventured into politics and became the founder of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party which has been the ruling party in Anambra state till date.
He was the proud husband of the daughter of a one time governor of Enugu State and a former Miss Nigeria Beauty Pergent, Ambassador Bianca Onoh Ojukwu.
