The senator representing Delta North senatorial district, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, on Thursday, December 28, during the Presidential nominee screenings for NUPRC (National Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission), directed probing questions to Babajide Oluwole Fasina, the Executive Commissioner for Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning.
Senator Nwoko, voicing concerns for his district—where five of nine local government areas are engaged in oil and gas production—raised critical inquiries about gas flaring policies. He emphasized the pressing issues of environmental degradation due to spillages and the detrimental impact of military actions like the burning of illegal vessels on the district’s environment.
Senator Nwoko urged Commissioner Fasina to outline existing policies addressing gas flaring and environmental degradation. He sought insights into any imminent measures to combat these issues and questioned the impact of crude oil theft on the commission’s operational efficiency.
The Senator probed further, asking Commissioner Fasina about specific yet unimplemented strategies necessary to effectively curb the menace of crude oil theft.
