A man identified as @nelsoncj3 on twitter has shared the heartbreaking story of how his father burnt his mom’s shop just because she became hugely successful in her kerosene business.
The man revealed this while reacting to a tweet that blamed Nollywood for the increasing misconceptions about Igbo men and Igbo culture.
The lady who shared the tweet had stated that Patriarchy was designed to favour women but the picture painted by Nollywood seems like women are being oppressed instead.
Reacting to this, the man debunked this assertion recounting how his father ruined his mother’s business just because she became successful.
He wrote:
“You know what my father did when my mother started a hugely successful kerosene business? He got jealous and burnt her shop then destroyed her wares. But sure, patriarchy protects women.”
