Two persons lost their lives while 15 others sustained injuries when a DAF truck overturned at a diversion point along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on high speed.
It was gathered that the incident involved a vehicle loaded with bags of onions and passengers.
The vehicle was travelling towards Lagos when the incident occurred around the Eldorado axis on the expressway.
The accident which occurred around 6.30am led to gridlock, as the truck emptied the onions and passengers on the road.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.
He said, “According to eyewitness account, the driver lost control of the steering while probably as a result of speed approaching the diversion bend.
” It overturned in the process, spilling all the onions it was carrying on the road, together with the 17 passengers.
“Two of the passengers died on the spot while 15 others were injured. He added.
