Nigerian Professionals living in the United Kingdom, UK, under the aegis of ‘Association of Nigerian Professionals in United Kingdom’ have urged President Bola Tinubu to as a matter of urgency come up with measures and policies that would cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the people who are now suffering.
They also backed the President for the political will to remove the subsidy which they described as a channel of fraud perpetuation by some criminal elements.
This was contained in a statement signed by the coordinator of the group, Comrade Innocent Udoidiong and made available to journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital on Sunday.
Udoidiong also called on the federal government to continue to evolve people-oriented policies and programmes geared towards improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.
According to the statement, “Watching closely, you would realize that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has started on a good note, indicating that he did not just dabble into it. He thoroughly prepared himself for the mantle. All we need at this moment is prayer and support to enable him succeed.
“We laud President Tinubu for the courage to get rid of the obnoxious fuel subsidy policy which had remained a channel for perpetration of fraud by some criminal elements.
“We also call for speedy implementation of measures aimed at reducing the hardship on Nigerians occasioned by the subsidy removal policy. If subsidy is removed to curb corruption, its removal should not rather lead to suffering by Nigerians. Something must be done and that should be as a matter of urgency.”
Comrade Udoidiong added that only well-coordinated economic policies and programmes can catalyse the desired sustainable development and progress in the nation.
Udoidiong, describing President Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima as strategic leaders with vast experience, further congratulated the duo on their election victory and inauguration.
The group also commended the President for standing by the zoning arrangement of the All Progressives Congress, APC, by supporting Senator Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas to emerge as the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.
