The Guinness World Records said the body did not receive any application regarding the cookathon that was undertaken by a Nigerian chef, Damilola in Ekiti state.
In an information reportedly sent to Legit.ng, the body said Dammy did not send in the required application to break a record before starting to cook.
However, another report by Pulse Nigeria says that Chef Dammy applied to Guinness World Records before attempting but didn’t get a feedback as at the time she was already cooking.
Meanwhile, Guinness World Records had on Tuesday, June 13, announced Hilda Baci the new record holder for the longest cooking by an individual.
The GWR in a statement on its website, said, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.”
Few hours after this confirmation, Adeparusi Damilola, popularly known as Chef Dammy was reported to have completed her own target of 120 hours of non-stop cooking.
As expected, Dammy’s adventure elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians, especially on social media. Whereas some people hailed her determination and courage, others berated her, with some even calling for her arrest. There are also people who opined that she was just seeking attention.
One of the criticisms that greeted Dammy’s world record attempt was the claim that she was ordinarily supposed to wait for a whole year before attempting to break the one already set by her compatriot, Hilda Baci
However, a fact-check by Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) found that there were no supporting facts to the claim that one needs to wait for one year to break a new record, and so described the claim as false.
In the meantime, some Nigerians say that whether or not Chef Dammy applied to GWR before attempting to set a new record, she has made a name for herself.
