A popular pentecostal church in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia state, has reportedly canceled a church wedding of their members after a positive pregnancy test.
The wedding, according to reports was supposed to be held in one of the church’s branches located at No. 138 Ehere, off Ikot Ekpene Expressway on Sunday, November, 25 in Aba.
The wedding was said to have been cancelled by the church’s board after finding out that the bride-to-be was already pregnant, an act that is against the church’s rules and regulations guiding intending couples who have notified the church of their intentions to be lawfully wedded by the church.
According to The Nation, it is the standard procedure of the church that the bride-to-be would not be pregnant until they were wedded by the church, even after the man had met all the traditional marriage requirements from the bride’s family.
A source around the area who confirmed the development said after conducting a pregnancy test on the bride-to-be, the church “found out that she was pregnant and announced that the wedding is hereby cancelled”
It was further gathered that both the bride-to-be and the groom-to-be were subsequently suspended in accordance with the constitution and bye-laws of the church.
The church and the couple have remained mum over the matter.
Our correspondent who visited the church on Monday was told that the resident pastor and the church’s board were sitting and were unavailable for comments.
